Making the Internet accessible to all
-
Lewes Community
Internet click here not only supplies low cost
wireless connectivity to the general public. Since
beginning the Meraki network provision in 2007 the
project has delivered broadband access to the
following: -
- In association with the Oyster Project and dITS
(Disability IT Services) broadband enabled the homes of
24 members of ESDA (East Sussex Disability
Association)
- Again in association with dITs we have broadband and
wifi enabled 3 retirement homes in Lewes: Greyfriars
Court; Leighside and St Thomas' Court
- Working with dITs we have broadband enabled a
training suite at Age Concern's House of Friendship,
Lewes
- On the charity front we have put in a back-up
broadband line for Lewes Citizen's Advice Bureau,
broadband for Lewes Homelink and the meeting room at
South Downs Council for Voluntary Services plus we have
wifi enabled Furniture Now!, the All saint's Centre and
the Pells Swimming Pool. We have also been able to assist
the Railway Land Project and have wifi enabled the St
Nicholas Centre so participants can video call their
counterparts in France
- We have also enabled numerous older members of the
community to get online plus many studenst from abroad
studying in Lewes. rcently we have collaborated with
Glyndebourne Opera to supply wifi broadband where
performers are lodged in Lewes during the season
- We have wifi enabled commercial premises at Bill's,
La Portes and Pailin Thai Restaurant
- Importantly the work we have done in Lewes is a model
that can be deployed in larger and small communities. By
linking internet connectivity, IT support, training and
real social needs amongst disabled and elderly people
positive and important benefits can be created
- We are now supporting the www.lewestv.net project and
providing IT support to the Oyster Project see website
here
- Thanks are due to all our supporters, Lewes Town
Council, St Thomas', dITS and our clients - see Lewes
