Terms and Conditions of Use - Community Internet
-
We do not guarantee that a connection to the internet will always be available regardless of events beyond our control. Where we maintain a number of active broadband internet connections, which feed into the network much like the National Grid system for electricity, we have a degree of redundancy and the sharing of unused bandwidth from neighbouring connections. However local and wide scale power outages will cause some disruption, especially if they continue and our backup battery power supplies become exhausted. Please bear this in mind.
-
Our service is intended for normal internet browsing and email, if we detect that your usage is incompatible with a social sharing network we will block your access. The download : upload profile for normal network usage is approximately 10 : 1. Where your usage abuses this ratio i.e. 3 : 1 or 2 : 1 others usage of the network will be effected and in the interests of all users we will block your access. In such a case no refund of fees will be given.
-
Likewise if you engage in unlawful online activity of any sort via our connections we will report this to the authorities and provide evidence. We are a social sharing network designed to be of use to the community as a whole, please bear this in mind and use the network responsibly.
-
Incompatible usage will happen if you engage in peer-to-peer file sharing for films and music where you are serving files to the internet indiscrimanently. We do not allow any form of serving to the internet and consider such activity incompatible with our service i.e. high upload amounts will result in you being blocked. Copyright infringement is illegal and you make yourself liable to prosecution by serving copyrighted material you have no rights in, to the internet.
-
By subscribing to our network you accept these terms and absolve Community Internet (www.communityinternet.org.uk) from any legal action following your misuse of the network and accept these actions as solely your responsibility.
-
We reserve the right to add to or amend our Terms and Conditions of use

From time to time the network administrators will transmit messages to users for informational, promotional and operational reasons

NB
-
Standard POP3 email using any other ISPs ordinary sending server cannot be sent over public roaming networks, it's to reduce spamming by relayers. To use POP3 email on our network you will either need to specify an authenticated smtp server for sending (such as Apple's Me) or use GoogleMail / Yahoo!
-
Both can be set up to collect your POP3 email and then send over any connection not just ours. This applies worldwide and is just a fact of internet life. If you wish to have an authenticated sending server that will work over any connection see here
